Fulham Palace is one of the most important buildings in London. Dating from 1495, its medieval Great Hall has played host to many royal banquets over the centuries. It also boasts an important botanical history and, today, is open to the public as Bishops Park, which runs alongside the River Thames.
Barker Langham’s advice was to integrate the Palace grounds and the park into a coordinated application to the ‘Parks for People’ scheme. Its strategic advice added value to the project by offering a unified approach to managing these important landscapes, as well as offering a seamless experience to the users.
This approach was the key to unlocking a grant of £4m to realise the Council’s vision. “Barker Langham’s comprehensive understanding of the complex and ever-changing requirements of Lottery funding,” says Scott Cooper, director of Fulham Palace, “combined with its substantial experience in preparing sustainable strategies for preserving and enhancing complex heritage assets, was vital to the Council securing £4m-worth of funding.”
