Calver Weir Restoration Project

In 2004, a local community group set out to save Calver Weir, a scheduled ancient monument on the River Derwent in Derbyshire, built to power Calver Mill. At serious risk of being lost, the Calver Weir Restoration Project (CWRP) enlisted the services of Barker Langham to help them make their application to the Heritage Lottery Fund.

Barker Langham produced a new audience development, access and activity plan for the project, as well as making applications to other funders, including English Heritage.

As a result, the project is fully funded – and the Weir will be saved.

“The Calver Weir Restoration Project has been working with Barker Langham for more than two years and has benefited considerably from its expertise, support, use of its information bank and extensive network of contacts,” says Mike Hennessey, chair of the CWRP. “All of which has enabled the successful completion of our project funding.”
