Associate Director

John has been a consultant and advisor for cultural heritage organisations and management, education and training since 1990, working with  clients like the Heritage Lottery Fund, UNESCO, Prince Research Consultants and Educational Developments International, both in the UK and internationally.

He is a professional reviewer and mentor for candidates preparing for the AMA (Associate of the Museums Association) and his committee work includes: ‘Buttress’; the Tyne and Wear Building Preservation Trust; the Friends of Bede’s World; Jarrow; and the Shipley Art Gallery, Gateshead. John is a Fellow of the Museums Association.

John played a formative role in establishing the national standards for museums in ethics, accreditation and collections management and was chairman of the editorial board for the Museum Association’s ‘Manual of Curatorship’ – the first single volume reference work on museum practice and an international best seller in its day.
