In 2004, a local community group set out to save the Calver Weir, a scheduled ancient monument on the River Derwent built to power the Calver Mill at the height of the industrial revolution. At serious risk of being lost, the Calver Weir Restoration Project enlisted the services of Barker Langham to help them make an application for funding to the Heritage Lottery Fund to ensure the survival of this heritage asset.

Barker Langham produced a new audience development, access and activity plan for the project, as well as making successful applications to other funders, including English Heritage.

As a result, the project is fully funded – and the Weir will be saved.

“The Calver Weir Restoration Project has been working with Barker Langham for more than two years and has benefited considerably from its expertise, support, use of its information bank and extensive network of contacts,” says Mike Hennessey, chair of the CWRP. “All of which has enabled the successful completion of our project funding.”
