Barker Langham led the interpretive development of this temporary exhibition at the Women’s Library, charting an important and exciting period in Women’s Liberation in the UK.

Working closely with the internal team at the Library we carried out an audience evaluation and undertook an extensive amount of research to produce the content. We developed a storyline that was compelling, enlightening and true to events, by focusing on firsthand accounts and the testimonies of those who were there at a time. Our approach was expressed through an innovative design by Muf and Objective, inspired by the rough and ready printing processes used during the movement to create campaign materials.

Barker Langham produced the text for the exhibition and an associated newspaper-format brochure that visitors could keep as a souvenir of their visit. This brochure contained accounts from key figures as well as reproductions of some of the movement’s most vibrant campaign posters.

“…Ms Understood: Women’s Liberation in 1970s Britain… is an informative, fascinating and accessible introduction to a key period of women’s history.” Ian Sinclair, The Morning Star
