Sconce and Devon Park is the largest of Newark’s parks, named after the River Devon and the Queen’s Sconce – a Scheduled Ancient Monument and the best preserved civil war period earthwork fort in Europe. Barker Langham has worked with the Newark and Sherwood District Council for several years to develop funding bids and implement the plans for interpretation, activities, promotion and events for this important site.

Working with the Council every step of the way from the initial successful bid to the Heritage Lottery Fund under the Parks for People programme, we produced a number of development strategies that have all been key to the regeneration of the park, such as audience, activity and volunteering plans. We included interpretive elements such as a short film ‘A History of Sconce and Devon Park’, a 3D fly through and an audio post at St. Catherine’s Well.

Barker Langham also created printed materials and a family heritage trail to help make the story of the park more accessible to a wider audience.
